<演講資訊>

※[My Exciting Ph.D Journey from NCTU to Silicon Hills (Austin)]主講人：Dr. Wen-Hao Liu, Cadence, Austin, Texas as a Senior Principal Engineer，2017年3月16日(四) 15：30，資電館447教室。

Abstract

This talk will introduce a journey to turn a research idea from a Ph.D study to an industrial software product. A successful software product not only needs a robust kernel engine/algorithm, but also needs to be easy extendable and maintainable. The talk will mention the resistance to run a new project in company, the difficulty to convince customers to accept your new solutions, and the headache to maintain a tool. In addition, the speaker will share his career path and abroad working experience in electronic design automation (EDA) academia/industry

 

Biography

Wen-Hao Liu, received his B.S. and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan respectively in 2008 and 2013. His research interests include routing, placement, and clock synthesis. Wen-Hao has published 25 papers and 5 patents in these fields, and he has served on the technical program committee of DAC, ISPD, and ASPDAC in the physical design tracks. Currently, Wen-Hao is with Cadence, Austin, Texas as a Senior Principal Engineer. He co-found a new team in Cadence starting from 3 people to 30 now, and he is the main developer of the next-generation global routing, clock routing, and Steiner tree generation engines used in Cadence’s tools.

 

※ [EDA 30 Years,]主講人：許有進榮譽教授, 4月14日（週五）上午10：40，台達館525會議室

許博士為美國伊利諾大學香檳分校（UIUC）資訊工程學博士。1987年畢業後加入本系，表現非常傑出；1991年為加州大學河檳分校（UC Riverside），以Tenured Associate Professor 聘任，並很快昇任正教授。之後，許博士帶領幾位學生，創立EDA startup，並賣給Avanti，再度創立Novas，後來與思源科技合併，許博士擔任Frontend product 副總，現在全球第一的Verdi系列產品，都是由他帶領的團隊開發的。2012年思源科技為全球晶片設計及電子系統軟體暨IP領導廠商新思科技（Synopsys）所併購，許博士留任副總，更獲管理全球跨國團隊的機會。他的實務經驗豐富，聲譽卓著，足資表彰，並值得為全院師生請益。

Dr. Kai-min Kevin Chang (Ph.D., Language Technologies Institute, Carnegie Mellon University)，106年3月23日(四) 2:00PM - 3:00PM，台達館108。

Abstract:

Virtual/Augmented Reality is poised to become the “next big thing” after mobile. The VR/AR industry is projected to hit $150 billion by 2020. VR immerses users in virtual worlds and AR blends the real world with the virtual world. In both cases, they dismantle perceptions of reality and immerse human’s basic sensory experience. But with so much data streaming into our senses, how do our senses talk back? It is equally important to capture inputs from the users. Motion sensors, gesture controls, and eye controls are emerging technologies that accompany the success of VR/AR. In this talk, Dr. Chang will share about his perspective on what’s hyped about VR/AR and how user-centric sensing will become an integral part of the immersive experience.
