Problem Solving Methods: from EE to CS

Abstract: In this talk, the speaker will give an overview of how Electrical Engineering (EE) engineers use  Computer Science (CS) and mathematical techniques, such as graph theory and linear programming, to solve their problems. Majorly two EDA problems, VLSI physical design and circuit simulation, will be depicted as examples.

Logic Optimization using Logic Implication and its application to Verification

Abstract: Node merging is a popular and effective logic restructuring technique that has recently been applied to minimize logic circuits. However, in the previous satisfiability (SAT)-based methods, the search for node mergers required trial-and-error validity checking of a potentially large set of candidate mergers. Here, we propose a new method, which directly identifies node mergers using logic implications without any SAT solving calls. To enhance the node-merging techniques on logic restructuring and optimization, we further propose a node addition and removal (NAR) approach. It works by adding a node into a circuit to replace an existing node and then removing the replaced node. We apply the node-merging and NAR approaches to circuit minimization as well as SAT-based bounded sequential equivalence checking (BSEC) to reduce the computation complexity of SAT solving.

Development and Application of Algorithms in Design for Manufacturability

Speaker:台灣科技大學電機工程學系 方劭云教授

Abstract: As semiconductor process reaches sub-10nm technology nodes, considerable circuit complexity and serious process variation cause increasing difficulty in integrated circuit manufacturing. In this talk, we will address different design challenges for advanced lithography technologies, such as layout decomposition in multiple patterning lithography, subfield scheduling in electron beam lithography, and template assignment in directed self-assembly. To improve manufacturability, optimization problems are formulated and sophisticated algorithms are developed, which will be introduced.

-蕭菊貞校友/我們這樣拍電影11/30@清華合勤廳

 

    這部紀錄片的導演是清大經濟系的校友蕭菊貞,10月從韓國釜山國際影展中世界首映後,上週11/19在金馬影展放映。蕭導演在清大求學期間因為李道明老師開設的紀錄片創作課程獲得啟發,作品《紅葉傳奇》(1999)和《銀簪子》(2001)皆榮獲金馬獎最佳紀錄片。

    導演的創作觀點從魏德聖《海角七號》為台灣電影所帶來的希望與反思作為切入點,《海角七號》在2008年創下了台灣電影史上最高點,對當時年產量不到十部的台灣電影而言,無疑是極大的鼓舞,導演藉由30位電影人的訪談,探討了其後台灣電影的現況與未來的走向,他們道出了幕前幕後的辛酸和勇氣,也為台灣當代電影留下見證。

受訪電影人包括:

侯孝賢、張艾嘉、蔡明亮、魏德聖、鄭有傑等多位導演,還有李烈、葉如芬製片,以及影評人藍祖蔚、李光爵,電影音樂創作者林強等。
